As a lifetime member and proud supporter of the California Historical Radio Society (CHRS), Jonathan Winchell has created an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for the CHRS to complete the Bay Area Radio Museum and Hall of Fame. The CHRS is the West Coast Headquarters for All Things Radio. It is a non-profit corporation founded in 1974 to promote the restoration and preservation of early radio and broadcasting. They are currently raising funds for a new museum to promote their goal to provide a forum for exchanging ideas and information on the history of radio and broadcasting, particularly in the West, with the emphasis on collecting, restoring and displaying vintage equipment, and related materials. Click here if you’d like to learn more about the CHRS.
Through the generosity of it’s donors, the CHRS has been able to purchase a home for a new Museum and Education center. It is a very cool 1900 telephone exchange building located at 2152 Central Avenue in Alameda, California. Volunteers are actively restoring the building to create an environment to share their knowledge and love for radioand inspire an appreciation and understanding for a whole new generation as well as antique radio collectors and historians .
This project is seeking $5,000, which will be used to complete the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame, to celebrate and recognize the men, women and legendary stations that have made Bay Area Radio so special and important to the development of Bay Area history and culture. If the full fundraising goal is not reached, all funds collected will be contributed to the CHRS for their library and radio restoration shop.
